Huh! Who'd have figured...

.. that size matters?

Well, once the truth hit me that most card makers use a 5.5''x4.25'' card base almost all the time, I was enlightened :)

Oh really! you may think I am a crazy nut! But most cards I make are double the size. I just fold an A4 and use it as a card base.. And then I try to figure out how to carefully stamp when the stamp was meant for half the size! Doh!!

Well, you are going to see so many cards in this newly figured-out card size - that you are going to tell me to take a break! lol.. I've made soo many cards and so quickly too.. lol.. I am glad I am enlightened.

This card is based on CraftyJC Challenge #11 - Pick Your Palette #3

An easy one layered card for, umm.. well Christmas :) :) :)

What went in
Had fun colouring those ornaments :)

Cheers,
Jaya
PS: Wish I can link in my entry to the challenge! Atleast I can get the lucky random prize!
PPS: Yes, I am really posting this at 1 AM.. Just can't sleep. No, I made the card earlier but just photographed it now. That must explain the fantastic quality of the pic. Yes, I am being sarcastic
PPPS: Thanks for the tip about sizes Tejal :)
PPPPS: I must really go to bed now! :) Good night. You girls are the best! :))))

A Magical Christmas

We are awaiting this Christmas eagerly. Will be a Magical Christmas certainly. What with a new born at home and my little angel

Here is a card you can mass produce. Can even be made as a one layer card.

DSC01824

The tip I learnt from KWerner Design’s 25 days of Christmas is “to make your supplies stretch, use stamps”. This way you will never run out of anything :) Me {hearts} the idea.

I planned to have 3 of those Holly leaves on the right. But my heart yearned for some white space. So stopped with one. Now I can make 2 more cards with those leaves I’ve already cut and coloured :)

DSC01825

A little bit of Sakura’s Star Dust to add a little bling.

Now, I’ve seen such stamps on the entire face of the card. How do you manage to stamp it correctly all over? Stamping it twice? Or is the card smaller? This card is an A4 folded in two. Well,  I really think people out there are using smaller cards – half the size!!  .. Any tips – much appreciated :) Thanks.

What went in

I am glad I am getting some crafting done before the next little one arrives :)

JC

How I was inspired to cheat

When I saw this post on Simplicity on Collage, I was certainly inspired.

This made look at this DCWV paper stack I’ve had for ages with a new light. And here is where I ended.

DSC01788

The panel in the centre is cut out from a 12x12 paper and the added the bit of red paper on the left – punched with Fiskars Threading Water border punch. Just a random layout

DSC01796

Added a little bit of Sakura Gelly Roll Star Dust to the hearts and flowers – yes you can see if you see a little carefully. lol :)

And of course the sentiment is from Hero Arts Everyday Sentiments

Thanks for stopping by :)

JC

you’re the best

If you are wondering about why the you in the title is with a small “y” rather than a capital “Y” – please see the sentiment below :)

Another PTI card with a Hero Arts sentiment.

DSC01748

What went in:

Well, I initially used the “just a note” sentiment from this sentiment set, thinking it would go well with the musical notes by the bird. But the font was too upright for the curvy rest of the card. So this new sentiment got popped up on a hand cut banner :)

PS: I can’t imagine why someone will want to die cut this style of banners. Isn’t it easier to hand cut it, rather than bothering with all those sandwiches etc??? Or is it just lazy me for the lack of the banner die! ;)

Thanks for stopping by :)

Jaya

With Love At Christmas

Here is me with my new PTI – Wonderfully Whimsical stamp

Nothing to speak about here :) The red panel was hand cut on top

DSC01741

A lit bit of the lovely Sakura Gelly Roll in Star Dust

DSC01744

And a little itty bitty bow completes the card.

Thanks for stopping by. I am already dreaming of Christmas :)

Rain or Shine!

When ICR has a Rain theme, I was looking around for some ideas and this is the stamp I landed on and fell in love with. Ujjwal recently sourced this for me. And I am glad I am able to use this in another ICR Challenge – the Challenge #10.
Here is the sketch grabbed from the ICR Challenge Pad
ICRC10
I wanted to CASify this sketch – inspired by non other than Simplicity. And this is what I came up with.
DSC01675
Isn’t the sentiment super sweet? :)
DSC01698
How to:
  1. Stamp the image in black – Hero arts black ink. Image used is Ippity’s Rain or Shine
  2. Made two masks: one for the legs and also one mask to mimic grass
  3. Taped the masks down and stamped the grass repeatedly using Ippity A Bit of Burlap
  4. Stamped the sentiment which came with the image.
  5. Stamped the image’s umbrella on a piece of felt, cut it out, mounted it and popped a white pearl on it. Felt and pearl from itsybitsy. Pearl coloured black using a gel pen
  6. Pencil coloured the shirt and the skirt.
  7. Contemplated on making the card shorter
  8. Dumped the idea
  9. And here we are :)
Trying to figure how to CASify a sketch wasn’t easy. But I LOVED the entire process of tossing this idea in my head and love the way it came out as well. And it is one layered too!! I am so thrilled! :)
Challenges:
  1. ICR – Challenge #10
  2. allsortschallenge. – Week 122 Clean and Simple
  3. sentimentalsundays – Challenge #74 - Step Out of Your Comfort Zone – I’ve NEVER EVER tried masking and stamping. I’m such chicken when it comes to that. So this masking the image and for the rolling grass is certainly a LEAP out of my comfort zone :)
  4. trulyscrumptiouschallenges. - Challenge 66–Clean & Simple
  5. All Things Unity #40 - One Layer. Both the stamps are Ippity

Sew much….

This is something I made for my DH. Anand, my husband, has been having a tough project and I see so little of him. So, to cheer him up, I made this card and left a few gifts in a bag in his cupboard and a little pick-me-up to cheer him up. Love you A :)

DSC01571

I’ve loved the sentiment I’ve seen in many places.. “love you.. sew much”. Such a fun sentiment which leads you to so many possibilities! :)

DSC01573

The hearts are hand cut, stamped with Ippity A Bit of Burlap and clear embossed. I wanted a casual look and so didn’t worry about careful stamping or anything. The bits of ribbon attached with a staple pin. The circle windows were cut with Nestabilities.

Sentiment is hand written.

This card is inspired by KWernerDesign. She makes such wonderful cards and lovely hand written sentiments. And all that hand drawn stitching. Aww.. gorgeous! :)

Thanks for stopping by :)

Cheers,
Jaya

thinking of you

Well, that’s what the sentiment says :)

Here is the card I promised (to myself) to post. This is the card I made first and then used the punched flowers to make this Just a Note.

DSC01558

Sentiment is white embossed using Hero Arts powder. Any suggestions on a decent white ink pad?

Popped up the punched panel with dimensions. I love the way it creates shadows.

DSC01563

The bit of ribbon is an after thought – well to hide a bit of mess I created :D

What went in

  • 5 Petal Punch & Buttons from itsybitsy
  • Ribbon from good old days from Pune
  • Stamp is my prized/treasured Hero Arts Everyday Saying
  • Fiskars Treading Water punch

Thanks for stopping by again :)

Cheers,
JC

Just A Note

Heyall

Today's post which is after some 5 months (yes you read that right) - is a bit of crafting after that many months. I've been looking at your posts - my fellow Indian crafters and others ocross the oceans. What lovely inspiration! :)

Today's post is based on ICR's Challenge#8 - a layout with stitching. You wouldn't believe if I said I have layouts sketched for the last 3 challenges - which never got made! Life has been a little bit insane here (massive understatement here)

So, now back to the card and off my rambling.. A super simple card I've been ruminating in my head :)
A bit of Faux stitching.

And here is the mandatory close up.

What went in:
  • Flower punch from itsybity - for more uses for the same - punch, see here and here. This punch is very versatile and so easy to use.
  • Buttons from itsybity too
  • The flower paper is from CLOVER MEADOW, Country Drive by Echo park - courtesy Ujjwal's shop :).
  • And the sentiment is a Hero Arts - Everyday Sayings.

Are you like me?? I don't know why some of these high-end/fancy (read expensive) patterned papers are double sided!! What a waste! I am already super scared of cutting them up!

Tomorrow's post will (hopefully) show how (if I get aroung posting it) to use the negative of the punched flowers.

Thanks for stopping by :)

Cheers,
Jaya

PS: I wish I had a lot to say how I made this card :o)
PPS: Hero Arts Clear stamps are lovely. Ok - Hero Arts Clear Stamp "IS" lovely - this the only one I have :)
PPPS: What are you still reading?? I am feeling compelled to add more.
PPPPS: You Are The Best :) Thanks for popping by. :)

CraftyJC Challenge#7: An inspiration from Ujjwal

Here is your next inspiration from our lovely creative Ujjwal.

Please welcome our second DT for this Challenge, Ujjwal

IMG_1725

Hello, I’m Ujjwal living in Pune, India and like the rest of the us am seriously addicted to Craft- making, admiring, hoarding and most defiantly buying ( things that I don't need but MIGHT need :D ). I got married to a wonderful guy 2 and a half months back and life has been a beautiful journey ever since. My DH is most supportive, encouraging and ever so patient with my crafting needs(I am not sure if its the same when I go on my crafting shopping spree!)

I have been into card making and crafting since I was a small kid but it got serious when I discovered blogging one and a half year back and started my own blog in February last year and there has been no looking back. I have met some very talented people..made wonderful friends and learned a lot.

I am glad to have been given the opportunity to be a guest designer at CraftyJC Challenges today! I am looking forward to all the creativity, fun and crafting!

About Project

college days
Although I am a card maker, I have recently ventured into the world of scrapbooking and enjoying it thoroughly. For this project, I picked up some of my college pictures and created a layout incorporating hand writing and doodling.

Here are some more views of this. All the lovely doodling is gorgeous. college days 3 college days 5

There are a lot more of these on her blog too

What a great inspiration, Ujjwal. Thanks for the awesome inspiration.

Now, dear crafters, please loved some love to Ujjwal and come back join us at this fun challenge #7 Digi or Doodle.

Inspired By: Day 6

Yesterday’s search yielded this card as well over at Simplicity. But I resisted making them both :)) Now, I am SO glad I didn’t make them both :)

I loved the colour combination and a touch of glitter – so cased both.

DSC01284

Since the cake itself had a sentiment I had to add that bow. Maybe I’ll try one without a bow.

DSC01280

Hero arts prisma glitter. Yumm.

Thanks for dropping by. Really appreciate you coming over :)

AWIC 2 – Day5 :) Fun.

Today’s card is super simple.

I wanted to make a birthday card and Google-d Simplicity and this is what I decided to CASE. Mine is super simplified :))

DSC01276

This Felt embellishment is from ItsyBitsy – I am glad I could finally use it. Sentiment is from Hero Arts Ink-n-Sweets Stamp set. This set has a lot of fun elements :)

Inspired By: Day 4

Ok, stalking continues :)

I don’t have many stamps. Just a handful. And looking around at challenge blogs and other blogs on my Google Reader makes me feel wanting. My cards are simple – almost plain. Busy cards don’t make happy – but that doesn’t stop me from feeling “oh I can never make something like that”

That’s when Simplicity helps. Susan’s cards and her insights are always ALWAYS a big source of inspiration. I look around her blog and find that simple is good. I don’t have to have a lot many things happening for my card to be nice : )  Ok, let me say that again. Ahem.

Today’s inspiration is Simplicity and Tejal. Tejal is so taken with butterflies – I find that very sweet. She is very giving, warm and encouraging. So, today I searched Simplicity on Google Feed for butterflies.

I had shortlisted some 7 cards and in the end these are based on this for the layout (butterflies and the sentiment) and this for the embellishments

DSC01274

This Stampabilities dots background is the only background stamp I have – so it was the obvious choice :) See fewer supplies means lesser time to decide <grin/>

Stamped this in the middle with clear embossing and then embossed over the stove’s flame. Rubbed ink all over.

DSC01222

This green one has the dots stamped with some left over ink in the stamp which I forgot to wipe and clear embossing ink – then clear embossed. Butterflies diecut is from itsybitsy.

The banner is due to smudged-ink. And the stamp is my, yes you are right, Hero Arts Everyday Saying :)

I wish I had something interesting to day about the colours like Susan does – but since I have nothing to say – let me stop my rather rambling post now! :)))

Entering for these challenges

And today is AWIC2 – Day4. We are planning on AWIC (A Week In Cards) to be a monthly event. From the 1st of every month – for a week. Suggestions welcome – please email me at mail.craftyjc(at)gmail.com

Inspired By: Day 3

This weeks OLW #44 is to be inspired by Marta's boards. My choice is this pinterest here

I wonder if Susan herself remember this one on Simplicity :)

Today’s card is a combination of these two.

DSC01208

The colours of flowers are the same and in the same order as that of Marta’s pinterest here. And the flowers and the sentiment placement is based on Simplicity’s card here

I now hope Susan doesn’t start to think I am stalking her! <grin/>

This goes to the challenges

Day 3 of AWIC Edition 2. I am a survivor :)

Thanks for dropping by. Glad to have you over here :)

Inspired By: Day 2

I am addicted to AWIC!! I think as of today I am officially playing along ! :))
Who would have thought I’d be frantically making cards everyday! Thanks girls for the infectious enthusiasm! I owe it to you all..
.. and to Susan at Simplicity. I don’t have to say who I’ve CASEd – again.
DSC01196

The eyes are inspired by Snail’s Pace. I thought Susan was talking about butter/dragon flies. Now I hope they too have eyes at the end of the tentacles :D
DSC01203
Die cuts from itsybitsy, Sentiment from Hero Arts Everyday Sayings and card stock is Fabriano.

But I think I’ll play along from the outside – at a best endeavours basis. I hope I won’t kick myself after posting 7 cards :)))

This card is inspired (read CASE) by Simplicity’s  card You Are Wonderful.

And here is my CASEing of this card. (I wanted to post Susan’s card also – but wasn’t sure about copyright etc) DSC01174

AWIC Edition 1: Day 7

I hereby state that I made these cards before 11PM last night and would like to emphatically blame Power Supply for the delay in posting them :)

Well, the final post for AWIC Edition 1.

I have two super simple cards to show you. Super simple to make after the not so super simple thought process :o)

DSC01153

Cuttlebug Swiss dots and Birthday die cuts. I don't to use any other folder than my Swiss dots.!!  Maybe I should sell them.

 DSC01154

Thanks for visiting.

Looking forward to Edition 2 which starts tomorrow. Email me at mail.craftyjc(at)gmail.com if you like to play along for a week of madness! :))

AWIC Edition 1: Day 6

Day 6! :) Phew! Am I thrilled or what! :D

DSC01142

My first monochromatic card.

 DSC01146

Just a hint of glitter on the flowers. Both the flowers and sentiment are digital – from my stash. The flower digi stamp is from papergardenprojects – called Spring Blooms. Sentiment computer generated – you can download it here.

I was VERY tempted to pop in a button or some colour somewhere – but I resisted, only just adding a tiny amount of bling.

AWIC Edition 1: Day 5

I’ve seen these beautiful hand made flowers on blogosphere – especially likes these one: Juhi’s and Creation-Faeries . Have always wanted to make one but never have before today.

DSC01137

The card stock is more Kraft than Gray :) But Gray is what my camera thinks it is.

Scallop Nestabilities layered and scrunched to make the flowers

DSC01131

A few pearls and my silver gel pen finishes up the card

I am thrilled with the results :)

Thanks for the lovely wishes for my little K. Here she is – our little flower :)
DSC01055
Ah! we’ve survived! :)) Day 4! I feel so good!
Ok I was tempted to put away one card for tommo :D But .. lol.. here they are.
This is one is just a random one – a couple of CB die cuts, CB Swiss dots emboss and Fiskars punch and a random layout
DSC01116

And this one – I LOVE!!
DSC01118
Can you see the Glitter Strip on which the flowers are resting?  I read about it on Paperlicious about Nichole Heady’s Make it Monday - Glitter Strips with Scor Tape.
DSC01124
When embossing, I left a bit of empty strip on which I laid down a double sided tape I got in Venus Traders (Pune) and sprinkled Hero Arts’ Prisma Glitter on it and wow.. it is beautiful. I am soo pleased with the result. Do try this and let me know!
